13 Aug 2008 19:00 David Marseilles Play DVDs on Your Wii (updated)Have you been waiting on Nintendo to release a DVD supporting version of the console? Forget them. One of the talented members of Team Twiizers (The same people who brought you the Twilight Hack and the Homebrew Channel) have enabled DVD playback on un-modded Wii's with DVDX. Check the comments section see other users' experiences. Most of them report success. Some report problems like slow playback or an inability to get past the DVD menu (there could be issues with specific DVD setups—not all menus are created equal). Use at your own risk. WiiHD's real DVD player has been on the rocks for a LONG time, so this is a welcome arrival. It would stink to have to buy new hardware for an old format when BD superiority is just around the corner anyway. Update: Footage of the hack in action after the break. Update2: Joystiq has posted their own video guide to getting the hack up an running. See it after the break. Thanks to GoNintendo for posting the video footage.

Play DVDs on Your Wii (updated)
While I appreciate all the creative ways these homebrew folks are utilizing the wii…one of their creations is wreaking havoc on my current Fav game: Mario Kart Wii. With an Ocarina app and codes from USB Gecko, hacks are now publicly available that enable users to enable infinite items (allowing for example, a person to become a Bullet Bill for the entire race) in Mario Kart Wii. And these hacks can be used in online play, which has led to a growing number of abusers. While it might be fun to experiment with this hack in offline races, taking it online is in poor taste, I believe. It is extremely frustrating to fellow racers and cheapens the MKWii points system. I am seeing more and more of these abusers each day, and unfortunately do not see an end in sight. Sad face

I've been concerned about the possibility of cheating, but there's no way to put the wiibrew genie back in the bottle. What needs to happen is online game makers need to be able to identify cheating behavior and disable the ability to play for them. This has been a problem in the world of PCs and xbox for a long time, and there's no way around it.
Your login, should you chose to use it, can work if you are willing to clear out your cookies. In the alternative, visit http://wiihd.wikidot.com and log in there. The login problem is being worked on by wikidot personnel, and should be fixed by monday, but it only affects custom domains. If you login at wiihd.wikidot, make sure you only revisit the site using that address later (rather than .fortunz), otherwise you might find yourself in an infinite reload cycle. If you do, no big deal, just close that tab/window and go to the wikidot link.
was wondering if installing & loading mplayer will work on modchip-installed wii.
Need some answers. Thanks.
Check out the hackmii link in the post.
I know the mPlayer can plan all DVDs on a Mac f.instance so I was just wondering if it does the same on the Wii? :)
