Fortunz Favor the Bold

What is "fortunz?" It's a derivative of my nickname on a number of forums and games: fortunzfavor. The is a throw back to a quote from Virgil's epic poem The Aeneid: "Fortune favors the bold", or to say it another way, fortune's favor is on the bold. This domain, fortunz.com, coincidentally is also a great name for a contests site. Since launching WiiHD's blog this June, I've been bringing you gaming contests as a sort of side attraction. Well, it's no longer just a side show.

WiiHD's Contest SuperSite has now spun off into it's own little corner of the blogosphere: fortunz.com. No longer is it just for gaming related swag, but for contests and giveaways of all kinds. After the break, there's a sampling of contests that have been put up this past week.

We're working on providing new features and better coverage, so check it out, and if there's anything special you'd like to see, just let us know. While you're at it, let us know what you think of the site as it is.

Contest SuperSite Update: Win a Ben Heck 360 Laptop

What's special about today, 08.08.08? The Olympics you say? No. Today is the day you got an opportunity to win one of the most amazing gaming related contests ever. Ben Heck and THQ are teaming up to offer you a chance to win a 360 laptop, apparently, the 60 gb version. The prize is not pictured (that's an older model shown), and the new version has no keyboard.

Entering is a little complicated. Hit the site link below, enter your birthdate, then look in the upper right hand corner for a box announcing a DarkSiders Sweepstakes. Click on that and register for the forums, making sure that "Join to Play in our Sweepstakes" is set to "Yes" (it is by default). After that a pop-up will come at you with the game, and you'll need to click a link specifying you don't have a gamepiece, and drag the red sword over the scrambled red sword to see if you've won. You probably didn't, but you did earn a chance to win, and that's something special.

The contest runs through October, and you can play daily (when logged in, go back to that same box announcing the sweepstakes). So what are you waiting for? Hit the link below. Also keep an eye on WiiHD's Contest SuperSite for more gaming swag like this.

Win Wiis, DSs, 360s, PS3s and more

WiiHD's Contest SuperSite is always hard at work, bringing you the best contests from around the web. Many of these are blogs and even small blogs, and the odds of winning can be very nice. Even when WiiHD is away, the Contest Tools are still hard at work.

The Celebrity Cafe is giving away a Wii and a DS Lite; enter both daily through the 31st of July. IGN and Mountain Dew are giving away a Wii (or PS3 or 360, your choice), contest ends July 30th. IGN is giving away a DS and Guitar Hero On Tour, ends 08.02.

WiiFanboy is giving away SMB3 and Punchout! for the Virtual Console. Just leave a comment to win, once per day until Monday the 28th. Wii Fanboy is also giving away 5 copies of the critically acclaimed Zack and Wiki, comment entries accepted until Sunday, July 27th.

Several NBC affiliates are giving away The Dark Knight themed 360s (pictured). Just enter by July 30th. The Vista Forums are still giving away a 360 Elite to the best Vista related review writer. Open through the 31st of July. Dose.ca is giving away a 360 console (unspecified model) together with Civilization Revolution. Canadians only, end 08/01.

Sony and ComicCon are giving away several PS3s. If you hurry, you can still enter once today and once Sunday the 27th. Then it's over. Money007 is giving away a PS3 GTA4 bundle. There are several ways to enter.

G4 and GamesRadar are giving away an HDTV to play them, but the dates and details are unavailable.

There are more contests listed on the contests blog today, so check it out.

360s, a Wii and a DS (oh my)

Even more consoles are being given away, including 360s, 1 Wii, and one DS, as well as other assorted games and swag.

Kotaku is making you work for a custom Alone in the Dark 360. Basically you have to hunt down kotaku trivia, and then submit it at the end of the week. Hard, but the payoff is pretty sweet.

Destructoid is giving you a chance to win a 360 and Soul Calibur IV with a SCIV faceplate at the cost of your dignity. Dress up like a SCIV fighter, whose lack of clothes are notorious in the gaming world, and post it for all to see and mock. They're also giving away some other stuff in another contest in exchange for a well-designed car for EA Sports' Nascar '09. The HDRoom is also giving away Soul Calibur IV.

To Think is To Create is giving away a Nintendo Wii in exchange for a comment recommending a shoe store. Yes, you did hear me right. You can earn an extra entry by twittering or blogging the contest.

Kirtsy.com is giving away 4 Pink DS's with Brain Age 2. Yes, pink. Get over it. Maybe you can trade in Brain Age 2 for a nice Zelda skin or something.

Finally, TechTreak.com is giving away $100 cash (via paypal) and some other goodies.

How do we find so many great contests? We use WiiHD's Contest Tools, which are always linked on the Contests Blog front page in the upper right-hand corner. Use them, and if you find a really great contest, Contact WiiHD via the Send News tips link to let us know about it. We'll credit you for the find.

Contests Update: Wii Fit Edition

Using the tools of our Contest SuperSite, WiiHD has snagged you a nice collection of free stuff to try and win. We've separated these tools from the main Contests Blog to make them both load faster. But don't forget to use those tools. Our Contest SuperSIte is the best tool to find gaming related contests at blogs and news sites around the web. It often finds contests at smaller blogs where your odds of winning are much higher, sometimes as good as 1 in 100 or better, as opposed to the 1 in 10,000 or worse you can get at massive sites.

There are two Wii Fit contests for you to enter. The first is Dramatic Prairie Dog's competition that is looking for the best 50-100 word creative essay on why you want Wii Fit. It ends July 15th, but there is no limit on how many entries you can submit. The second is iNutrition's Wii Fit Contest, just fill in the information and you are entered to win.

Honda and Games Radar are still giving away a Nintendo Wii console and 50,000 Wii Points, just fill out the form and you're entered. Enter until July 15th.

The Vista Forums are still giving away a 360 Elite to the best Vista related review writer. Open through the 31st of July. Dose.ca is giving away a 360 console (unspecified model) together with Civilization Revolution. Canadians only.

Money007 is giving away a PS3 GTA4 bundle. There are several ways to enter for the next month or so.

Finally, Destructoid is giving away some Civilization Revolution Swag (including 1 poster signed by Sid himself and a copy of the game or $50 gift certificate) to the best picture or video that personifies "Revolution".

WiiHD only tells you where the contests are, Reading all contest rules carefully is up to you. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend.

Contest SuperSite Update

We've been slaving away tirelessly on the Contest SuperSite, so you can win free consoles, games and other gaming related gear. We've added new sources, refined the old ones, and launched a mini-blog to help you keep track of it all. Now's the time to head over there, but don't worry if it stalls a little. There's so many contests packed onto a single page that it takes time to load.

In the past week, we've seen around 4 Nintendo DS systems given away along with some games, a half a dozen 200-50$ AMEX gift cards, iPod nanoes, iPod touches, 2 signed copies of MGS4, Wii Points, Wii Fit, a wireless Nunchuck, Death Jr (Wii), a Conduit t-shirt, CnC3 swag, free WiiWare, and much, much more.

This week there are several Wiis and DSs being given away, 2 360 elites being given away, a PS3, virtual console games, thousands of Wii Points, retail games, and much much more. You can find all this with the tools we've put in place on our Contest SuperSite, so go visit it now. It's worth the loading time.

Featured Contests

With our Contest SuperSite (Beta) up and running (mostly) smoothly, we thought we'd mention a few goodies it has uncovered. Both PS3 Fanboy and their overlords at Joystiq are running contests for copies of MGS4 signed by Hideo Kojima and Yumi Kikuchi.

XBox Solution is running a contest for Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath (360), Kane Shirt, GDI mug, GDI Shirt.

Video Game Memories is giving away 2000 Wii Points. Dramatic Prairie Dog is giving away a copy of Wii Fit. Affiliate Confession is giving away a DS and two games (plus some other stuff). Today is your last chance to enter Gamerz Reviewz contest to win a Wii, PS3, or 360. Nintendo Wii Fanboy is giving away a wireless nunchuck and Death Jr. And don't forget about the Conduit T-Shirt contest.

Check that out, then hit the Contest SuperSite (Beta) to find more video game contests. We've also set up a mini Contests Blog on the SuperSite to help feature some contests, like these.

The Conduit Gets a Website (and a T-shirt)

Surely not. CVG, a decent news site, has reported portions of an interview were found on The Conduit's "official website". Trouble is 1) their quote happens to match one posted on a free user fansite, claimed by said fansite to be an email interview, and 2) The Conduit doesn't have a functional official website yet and the publisher's site has no such interview anywhere I could find. Destructoid picked up the story as well, without checking facts or providing a meaningful source link to the interview cited. This is why we link to our sources. Bad CVG.

Even more troubling is neither Destructoid nor CVG seems to have any recollection of the unconventional Wii headset IGN has apparently seen. It has been described as having features that would give parents some control over who their kids talk to, but IGN theorizes that 3rd parties will release conventional headsets shortly after the official one releases and the Wii is outfitted with the appropriate firmware.

But the real point is that while googling for this supposed official Conduit website I turned up a nice "under construction" placeholder site. I gather it's legit because the domain was created in January 08, but the world didn't know about the Conduit until High Voltage went public with it on April 17th. The site also uses the same email address as the publisher, and features the same contest: that is, a contest for "alien resistant cotton armor", or a Conduit T-shirt. No word on what the shirt looks like.
