WiiHD is a huge fan of online gaming, but not just any online gaming. Core gaming in genres like racing, fighting, and shooters. So now we want to do our part to help the core Clan community on Wii make themselves known and increase their membership. We will begin listing notable clans that actively engage in clan wars in games like Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. We will however keep the gates, so not just any clan listing will be accepted. A clan needs to demonstrate viability to be listed
WiiHD is now unveiling a gallery of user created videos from Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (MoHH2), currently the best FPS on Wii, and the only one with online multiplayer. We'll be doing this for a number of similar games as they come out. If you want your video included, just hit the link above and use the submission form.
WiiHD is your one-stop shop for hardcore gaming on the Wii.
Hardcore gamers frequently belittle the Wii for its low-power CPU, small storage space and gimicky casual games. Nintendo didn't keep their promise to focus on both hardcore AND casual games, but they did design a control system that is truly next-gen. Rumors of similar controls for PS3 and the 360 tell that tale. Sure, you can accurately control a 3D game with dual analog. You can also communicate in binary, but why would you want to? The Wii Remote rivals the PC keyboard and mouse as a control mechanism for 3D worlds, and it leaves dual-analog as a relic of the past. It can change the way games are played. Hardcore gaming isn't just about distracting ADD patients with shiny gfx, it's about delivering a whole new way of playing.
The Wii's FPS controls have finally been perfected with the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In November of 2007, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 brought the first taste of online FPS to the system, and the most customizable controls we've seen so far. Nintendo's focus may be elsewhere, but if you buy, the games will come. The most exciting game on the menu now is The Conduit, a new original IP from High Voltage that promises the whole package for the first time. The Wii has overtaken the xbox 360's 1 year lead and has the largest install base of any console. Talk of most of them being casual gamers is a misnomer—the new casual gamers mostly live in the same household as a hardcore gamers. If developers will finally stop phoning in Wii development and give us complete games, they'll see incredible returns.
This site will follow, document, review, compare and contrast the Wii's hardcore games with your help. There's good news on the horizon. Be a part of it at WiiHD. And leave your casual games at the door.

Dead Rising: Chop Till you Drop is shaping up to be one of the best ports Wii has ever received. A genius title, Zombies, the RE4 over-the-shoulder style gameplay, a sandbox world with a sweet theme, and excellent attention to detail. Capcom's upcoming Wii lineup is really looking sweet (see also: Monster Hunter Tri and Spyborgs).
Today, Capcom dumped a bunch of new screens, and some TGS footage on us, including a trailer and some on-floor gameplay footage. What we don't see is them achieving their previously stated goal of putting 100 zombies on screen at once, but it's still looking like a great game.
In the original 360 game, some of the complaints were that mission times had cramped the sandbox play style, and Capcom payed attention, and loosened things up to really give you the kind of freedom that a sandbox was designed to provide.
Today, WiiHD headquarters was invaded. The invader was a seemingly mortal spider of significant girth. Of course, I know the risks of spider killing. Spiders, in addition to sometimes carrying thousands of too-small-to-kill babies on their back at a time, are also some of the most vindictive creatures alive, behind wasps, mothers-in-law, ants and moths (in that order). You kill one, and their family hunts you down and attacks in the wee hours of the night. This one was pretty big, and yet still had a slightly awkward appearance, like a big puppy whose paws indicate that it is nowhere near done growing, so I felt compelled to take lethal action. From a distance, of course.
Now by virtue of my trade, I'm accustomed to dealing with arachnids and I even deal with zombies. Today was the first day I dealt with a killer zombie spider. Apparently, it had no family left to avenge its death, but that was not enough to undo its grudge-holding ways. There I was cowering behind a spray can with a comforting "kills on contact" label, and although it seemed to take about 20 seconds longer than the label advertised, gingantospider did eventually succumb to the poison, and comfortingly advertised this by flipping to its back, twitching a couple more times, and then going still.
I breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed momentarily. I slowly began to hum the opening bars of the Rocky theme in preparation for my victory lap around the water cooler when the spider flipped back over and began dragging itself towards me on its front two legs. * pauses to locate source of sudden errie background music *
Currently, gingantoundeadspider is underneath a bucket, weighted down by several books, a brick, my office fridge and an industrial size copy machine. Did I mention he seems stronger now? Decapitation seems like the smartest move, but I gotta tell you, I'm not 100% where his head ends and his body starts. Right now I'm considering flushing him while I research that point, I just want to know if he'll mutate in the sewers and come back twice my size. I mean, I know he'll come back, but is he gonna grow down there?
In honor of the Leipzig Games Convention, Capcom is dumping new Chop till You Drop screens and video footage on us. There's a standard trailer, a gameplay trailer, and 18 new screens eagerly awaiting your attention.
Truth be told, zombies alone aren't really enough to get WiiHD psyched about a game. Been there, done that. But watching the game in action, it really looks to be open world, sandbox gaming done right. Watch in the gameplay trailer as Frank manages to use tons of random stuff from the environment to wade his way through hordes of zombies. Being in a mall would be nice enough on it's own, but having full run of the place and everything in it (including the food court) rocks. WiiHD would love to some more games of this style on Wii. Freedom in gaming is good.
But Dead Rising isn't just a pointless zombie-killing frenzy either. You've got scared and trapped townfolk to rescue, and a huge mystery to solve. Having a mission is good too.
Hey Treyarch, you want to prove you heart Wii? How about giving WaWii some decent public exposure. Call Capcom, they'll explain the process to you. Or hit the break and take a gander.
When last Kotakugot their hands on MadWorld, they felt it might be a little repetitive (though probably not as repetitive as the, uh "MAD" post titles that are all the rage /abject shame). It's hard to know from a distance, but the new MADWORLD trailer looks as though there are plenty of ways to kill and mutilate your fellow game show players. Watch it after the break.
In other MADWORLD news, Nintendo Wii Fanboy tells us that MADWORLD, amongst others, won't be released in Germany due to a restrictive ratings system.
Finally, to round out the MAD news cycle, Nintendo Wii Fanboy brings us counter-coverage of MADWORLD's violence from freelancer Thom Binsdale. He looks at backlash from the British Press, founded on the idea that Wii was supposed to be THE family-friendly console, and wonders if the casual crowd will be as accommodating of the core crowd as we have been of them. Core Wii players (this is WiiHD speaking, not Thom), have never been happy about not getting core games, but they haven't really begrudged the casuals from having their fun. The main complaint is that while Nintendo has been catering to casuals, they've largely ignored the core. If that changes, as it seems to be, core gamers are going to perfectly happy no matter how successful Wii Fit is. Thom thinks that, judging from the British Press' reaction, casual gamers may not be quite so accomodating. They may not want to share their gaming platform with… you know… games.
BioShock was one of the biggest games of 2007, and 2007 was no small year for gaming. In an interview with Gamasutra, 2K Boston tech director Chris Kline started talking about Wii and BioShock. In the same thought. Not entirely negatively!
I think there is an appetite out there; it's just a matter of finding the right way to bring it to them.
I don't think there's anything preventing the game complexity of BioShock from being on the Wii.
He condescendingly mentions the need to educate Wii gamers when it comes to core games, but other than that, it's a much more positive perspective than we're used to hearing from developers that aren't already devoted to Wii. A lot of what has prevented core games from getting Wii ports, and what has prevented Wii projects from getting big budgets and AAA teams has been the acrimony of developers and marketers convinced that nothing but mini-games can sell on Wii. Having now built an install base larger than the 360s in a year less time, reality seems to be dawning on developers. They can't ignore Wii anymore.
So does this mean BioShock is coming to Wii? The comment had more to do with mechanics than the franchise specifically, so while anything is possible, you shouldn't hold your breath. I think the attitude displayed by the comments does increase our odds for BioShock 2 though (BioShock 2 Developer 2K Marin has a job posting seeking Wii experience).
WiiHD loves open world gaming. Morrowind is our favorite rendition of that style, but anytime you give the player more power and decision making ability, we're in favor of it. Add to that a memorable and engaging environment, and we're sold. Dead Rising was one such game on the 360 in 2006, and now, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, a pseudo port of Dead Rising, is bringing that open world to the Wii. What world is that they're opening up to you? You're stuck in a shopping mall in a small town over-run with zombies. Yes, Capcom does love zombies.
How do you survive? Well everything in the mall is at your disposal. Running low on health? Hit the food court (but try to be the diner, not the meal). Need a weapon? WiiHD recommends the hardware store. In the meantime, as a freelance journalist, you're doing more than just surviving; you're investigating. How did this happen? You'll collect evidence and piece together a story that reveals the awful truth in true B movie style.
WiiHD also looks forward to the visuals comparison between the Wii and 360. Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is due out this Winter. Hit the break for some Wii Screens and IGN's 360 video review (to give you a ….ehhh, "taste" for the game).
Things are really heating up for core Wii gamers. The Conduit was one of the first signs of great things to come, then CoD5 not only didn't skip Wii, it isn't porting our version from PS2. We've got Quantum of Solace coming, and new core exclusives like Deadly Creatures (DCWii) being announced regularly. One such Wii exclusive is the over-the-top MADWORLD, and it doesn't get much more hardcore than this (so maybe NSFW).
In MADWORLD you are the captive of terrorists, forced to participate in their little game known as Death Watch. To survive, and to get the terrorists, you'll need to become the master of the game, killing foes in outrageous ways with an odd selection of weaponry. Preferably without going insane. MADWORLD has minigames, but not like you've ever seen them before. You'll be playing human darts and other excessively violent minigames in your quest to survive.
The game promises fast and instinctive gaming for an arcade style of play, and there will be finishing moves as you put down your opponents. And those minigames will be available in a hotseat mode so you can compete against friends for the highest score.
Even if survival horror or over-the-top violence isn't your cup o joe, you should be excited about titles like MADWORLD. They represent a sea change for core Wii gaming. Although Nintendo may never give us what we want, the Wii's enormous install base is attracting attention from more than just the makers of Petz (coming soon: Piranhaz… wait, that could actually be cool). Not all developers are ashamed to be working on Wii anymore, and we're not getting C and D teams for Wii ports anymore (though it remains to be seen what level of quality we'll see from QoS or COD5, we may still be stuck with some B teams for a while).
Hit the break for 16 MAD screens and some zany game footage.
WiiHD is errily entranced by DCWii (Deadly Creatures). The environments, the music, the gameplay, the ever-present sense of danger… It's a unique title, and it's exclusive to Wii. We highly recommend you check it out.
Yesterday, GoNintendo found the boxart for this great game. See more Deadly Creatures screens and video after the break.
Rainbow Studios calls the game an action thriller, but at WiiHD, we prefer to classify it under the lesser known arachnid horror category. You have your pick of two heroes to play as. Behind door number one, your friendly neighborhood tarantula, is said to like quiet introspection and Harry Potter novels. Behind the other door is the affably outgoing scorpion, reported to enjoy bold moves and Battlestar Galactica. Your mission? To survive a trek a across a dangerous and enemy-infested desert. It's dark, brooding, and even cinematic as there is a separate human drama taking place outside your immediate battleground.
Samit Sarkar over at Destructoid got a little demo time with Deadly Creatures last week, and was kind enough to document his impressions for us today. Hit the break for quotes (and bonus material from IGN's April hands-on), screens, and two videos. Hit the source link for the all of Destructoid's impressions. Source | Permalink
