Will Animales Go Retail Instead of WiiWare?

teddy.jpg

Is it possible that Animales de le Muerte, everyone's favorite Mexican Zoo Zombie Shooter, will go retail instead of WiiWare? According to Eric Nofsinger, High Voltage hasn't decided.

We are still working on Animales but aren't sure whether to make this another WiiWare game or maybe a full blown Wii title.

This is news to WiiHD. We thought Animales was already done and just waiting for Nintendo to choose a release date.

From the same interview, Eric says HVS is looking into Co-op mode options for The Conduit, but splitscreen isn't going to happen. The excuse? The same as WaWii's. Too much graphical fidelity. I'm guessing no one tipped them off that they could crank down the graphics for splitscreen. (Thanks to Gamefaqs user CatsBall for the heads-up on Conduit Multiplayer)

WiiWare World Talks Up Animales

teddy.jpg

One of WiiHD's ten most anticipated games is Animales de le Muerte, an entry into the little known genre of Mexican Zoo Zombie Shooters. You won't be shooting Zombie Zookeepers, no, you have a license to kill undead animals south of the border using the same Quantum3 Engine that powers The Conduit.

WiiWare world hits us with an interview with High Voltage's Executive Producer Chad Kent. WiiHD loves hearing about control schemes, and we get both from this interview. On the Wiimote-chuk, you'll move your character with the analog stick, and he'll face the on-screen aiming reticule, wherever you point it, which sounds like a pretty good system to us. In addition, you have a net for rescuing healthy animales and a whip for the less fortunate. A downward swing of the nunchuk activates the whip, and Z plus a whip-like action with the chuck activates the whip. If you're not fond of that, conventional dual analog is available with the Classic Controller.

Kent doesn't expect bad or good press over the violence, but figures the comical nature of the violence will win the day with players. No questions were asked regarding racism in this title, sadly. So since N'Gai Croal isn't around, WiiHD demands to (not) know if there were any Hispanic ZooKeepers working on this WiiWare game. What's the implication here? European ZooKeepers can keep their animals from becoming undead, but Hispanic ZooKeepers can't?? <GOB Bluth>Come on!!</GOB Bluth>

As with all interviews, the fun-loving and unique gamer personality of High Voltage shines through. Read it all. Video and screens after the break.

Mini Cores: SPOGS Racing

spogs.jpg
This week's Mini Cores features the new WiiWare title: SPOGS Racing. Your objective? Do serious damage to other racers and in the process steal their parts to upgrade your own ride. Yes, that's right, apparently parts in this game are hot-swappable! You get an instant boost when you pull it off. For a WiiWare title it sounds nice enough, with more than 12 courses, 6 weapons to do your dirty work with, multiple control methods, and 3 different modes. No word on the price or the time of arrival.

If such a game is well executed, one can only imagine that racing might become a secondary objective, Super Dodgeball style. Has anyone seen the dodgeball? … What? There's a dodgeball in this game? Imagine running people down, grabbing their stuff, then turning around completely to run down another player for their stuff… all so you can pound them some more. Finish Line? What Finish Line?

Of course, WiiHD cannot publicly endorse larceny, reckless endangerment, cheating or vandalism. However, we neither reject nor denounce the same. Since WiiHD is part Irish, let us leave you with this: If you must be a vandal, then tear down the unteardownable*. If you must be reckless, never look back. If you must cheat, cheat death. If you must steal, steal the heart of the one you love.
*It's only not a word if you choose not to use it.

Catch the trailer after the break.

Mega Man 9 Goes Retro

mm9tiny0.jpg
Mega Man is rumored to return in it's former 8-bit glory. To WiiWare. Nintendo Wii Fanboy brings us a post from the Mega Man network that appears to contain scans from an upcoming Nintendo Power magazine to that effect.

WiiHD has nothing against 2D gaming, though we had previously hoped for a Metroid Prime-style 3Difying of Mega Man. But why not do it up Lost Winds style? Semi-modern 3D graphics operating in a 2D gameplay area? Ah well, never underestimate the power of nostalgia.

Gyrostarr TMI

gyro.jpg
Is there really such a thing as Too Much Information? Welcome to WiiHD's Mashup format. When the news around a single title piles up, especially around review time, we like to punch it out in one post. Today, that pile surrounds Gyrostarr, High Voltage's incredible bargain, with 50 levels, 50 bonus levels, and 4 player (offline) coop at only 700 points. Reviews are chosen based on content and insight, and are not always from the biggest sources.

Zentendo: 9/10

WiiWare World: 7/10

New Gyrostarr (WiiWare) Screens

gyro.jpg
WiiWare World has 7 new Gyrostarr Screens. Gyrostarr being another project from WiiHD's favorite developer High Voltage. It's an on-rails space shooter that doesn't let you get to the next level unless you collect enough energy, and it features 4 player offline coop. Looks pretty exciting, and once it hits, it'll be just 700 points.

Hit the break for the screens and a trailer.

Star Soldier R Tournament

ssrud1.jpg
Category: Better Late than Never
Starting May 27th, Hudson began running a tournament with their new Star Soldier R shooter for WiiWare. You have until June 24th to register at their website, and then try to get the high score in the 5 minute mode. Just for registering for the tournament, you also get entered into a competition free sweepstakes with a random chance to win some swag.

The award distribution is a little odd, as prizes don't go to the first 3 places. Instead only the top scorer, the 10th scorer (in honor of this being the 10th Star Soldier game) and 16th scorer (in honor of the freakishly fast trigger finger of Takahashi Meijin) get prizes. Hit the break to see the prize list and some SSR video footage.
